LA PLATA, Md. (June 26, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office on Thursday released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On June 19 at 5:12 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's Officer J. Timko of the Community Policing Unit was conducting a bicycle patrol of Meadow Lane in Waldorf when he observed a parked sport-utility vehicle occupied by two males and a female. When he approached the vehicle, he smelled marijuana. His investigation revealed the female, Vicki Justina Almendarez, 18, Takoma Park, Md., was in possession of marijuana with a street value of about $50. He arrested Almendarez and charged her with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

BURGLARY: On June 25 at 3:15 a.m., officers responded to the Gallant Green Bar at 14901 Woodville Road in Waldorf for the report of burglary. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect broke out a window, gained entry and stole a small amount of cash. The scene was processed for evidence. Officer M. Sokoloff is investigating.

HATE CRIME/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On June 24 at 2 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Wedgwood Place in Waldorf for the report of vandalism to a car. Investigation revealed unknown suspects punctured two tires on the vehicle and wrote "KKK" on the driver-side door. The scene was processed for evidence. Corporal M. Clark is investigating.

MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING OFFICER DURING TRAFFIC STOP: On June 21 at 3:54 a.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer initiated a traffic stop near Indian Head Avenue and Bland Drive in Bryans Road after observing a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop and continued driving to Mattingly Park where he jumped out of the car and ran. The officer pursued the suspect on foot until they reached a fence. At that point, the suspect turned, struck the officer and escaped. Officers returned to the suspect's car where they found a small amount of marijuana. At 6:30 a.m., the suspect, Daniel Greg Daras, 21, of Bryans Road, called police and attempted to report his car stolen. He was arrested after he was identified as the driver that assaulted the officer. Daras was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, and possession of drugs.
